Well Hello There

Ah, we have a developer's blog... we must be official! I expect we will be writing all the interesting things that are going on here at GumSpots. Thanks for visiting. If you have not already signed up for a jumpWORD.com account, go ahead & try it out. We are currently in alpha mode and we have a lot of updates coming in the near future.

We also will be launching the official Come Out & Play Festival registration / game sign up site in the next couple of days. If you are going to be around NYC September 22-24th you should sign up for some big games!

Until the next time I write...

Jason

DevSpeaks | Talk back.

Hello everyone and welcome from the jumpWORD dev team. This blog is the best place to find up to date information about the progress of jumpWORD.com development. If you haven't already, create an account at jumpword.com and take the system for a spin. Post any feedback either to this blog's comments or by using the feedback link in the menu bar on the channel panel (your member page at jumpWORD). We want to know what you think — report bugs, let us know what features you'd like to see, or give us any general comments or criticism. We're a small team that can react quickly to feedback, so your comments won't fall on deaf ears. Help us build the best possible service for your needs.

That said, look for a redesign of the front page in the coming days to feature more of your published content, as well as a steady stream of bug fixes, refinements, and new features. And in the not-too-distant future we will be rolling out a super-slick Flash-based publishing sytem that allows you to publish from your mobile device, email, or channel panel to your blog, MySpace page, or any other website, much like the HTML-only prototype shown here on my blog.

Sign up, enjoy the services, and let us know what you think and how we can help.

Get Attached

As of this afternoon, all contacts now default to receiving files from jDeliver modules as MMS attachments instead of http:// links. This means no more opening data connections and clicking links. In case the MMS send fails due to your particular carrier + device combination, you will still receive a link to external file attachments.

Try this attachment system out by getting the coolest ringtone of all time on your device — just send a message to nk.modem@jumpword.com, install the ringtone, and you'll be instantly thrown back to the good old days everytime your phone rings. Fiber may be fast but it makes a horrible ringtone.

Train ride

Here's a pic I jWorded from the LIRR.

I've been working on a Flash Lite 1.1 jumpWord builder. Yesterday I set up jDeliver. Because Flash Lite can not upload files directly the only way to get the file to the system is via MMS. Because of this I made the jDeliver builder auto compose the MMS for the user.

I began building jVote today. I made some good progress, tomorrow i'll hopefully finish it up. jVote is all text based right now so I could send the information directly to our server via Flash Lite (or I could stick with the MMS format). I'll just have to put in a password field and we should be golden.

Next steps will be to enable the creation & posting to jHoller, jDiscuss, and jBlog.

After that is building out the flash lite 1.1 jumpWord content browser. Should be interesting...

How jumpWORD should make you feel

Friday brings us RSS

Ah, another Friday. I've been setting up the Flash Lite 1.1 jumpWord builder / poster to connect to the server and store the info. The reception in our office is super cruddy (on Cingular) so it's a little frustrating but that's technology for ya.

Nick S has been working on adding RSS feed functionality to jumpWORD. It will probably end up being a new module. Pretty soon you will be able to set a feed into a jumpWORD. From there you can either join the jumpWORD to get all the latest updates on your phone (or Email) or you can just write to the jumpWORD to get the latest entry.

Alex B has been rocking some new functionality for jDeliver. In the near future you will be able to enter in a URL and easily select any image or text from the page to be put into your jumpWORD. It should be pretty nifty and it will make grabbing content into a jDeliver much easier.

Alright, until next time. - peas & carrots

Feed Me

We've got a few published feeds set up that you can grab or subscribe to from your phone or email. Send an empty message to get the most recent post, or send 'join' in the body of your message to subscribe to the feed and get all future posts. You can send 'off' at any time to unsubscribe and as always, it's entirely free.

The feeds:
msg to:
asdf.nytimes@jumpword.com - The NY Times Homepage
asdf.onion@jumpword.com - The Onion Daily News
asdf.devblog@jumpword.com - This blog
asdf.pokerfeed@jumpword.com - Bill Rini's Poker Blog

Enjoy it and let us know what you think. Many more feeds and the ability to easily publish your own via your jumpWORD.com channel panel are coming very soon.

Come Out & Play Festival 2006

We recently built and launched the registration system for the upcoming Come Out & Play festival in NYC. From September 22nd to the 24th New York City will be a giant game board. We are proud to say the festival communications (e-mail & mobile alerts) are powered by GumSpots, just like JumpWORD.com. You can use your GumSpots username to log in and sign up for games. Visit comeoutandplay.org for more information.

We hope to see you out there! - Jason

Sunday, Sunday

I came into the office today to do some comping of our new homepage layout. We want to make the site feature great user created content so new visitors can get a better understanding of what they can / will be doing on the site. Hopefully we will be updating the site in the next few weeks. Stay tuned.
